Black Faculty and Staff Association Community
Outreach
In honor of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, the BFSA's
Outreach Committee is sponsoring a day of volunteering at
St. Francis Academy (501 E. Chase St.) on Monday, Jan. 15.
Volunteers are needed between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. for
registration, meal service and preparation, assistance in
the child-care center, traffic control/guides and for
setup and breakdown. Light breakfast and lunch will be
provided.
To volunteer, contact Lori at lhackett@jhsph.edu
or Debbie at
droberts@jhmi.edu with your name, e-mail address,
phone number and the time you would like to begin
volunteering. Volunteers must be high school age or
older.
Vietnam-Era Oral History Project
The Department of History's spring course about the
Vietnam era will have a co-requisite media lab where
students will produce a variety of projects including oral
history interviews.
The department needs to identify local people —
preferably Johns Hopkins affiliates — who have had
experiences either in the military or as a war protester
during that time so that students can learn and practice
recording oral histories. Interviews will take place in
one week in either February or March. For more
information, e-mail
digitalmedia@jhu.edu.
Cancer Research Grants
The American Cancer Society Institutional Research Grant
program provides seed money for the initiation of new
projects by independent junior investigators so they may
obtain preliminary results that will enable them to
compete successfully for national research grants. Grants
are for one year and cannot exceed $30,000 (direct costs
only); the grants are primarily for research supplies and
technical services. Applications will be accepted only
from full-time, tenure-track JHU faculty members at the
ranks of instructor and assistant professor or equivalent
who are within six years of their first independent
research or faculty appointment.
Guidelines, details for proposal preparation and
submission, and the required application form are
available at
jhuresearch.jhu.edu/
funding.htm#jhu-coordinated.
Applications must be received no later than 5 p.m. on
March 1. Submit an original and 11 copies to Grace
Bigelow, Research Projects Administration, Suite W400,
Wyman Park Building. Awards will be announced in April
with a July 1 start date.
