Blood Donors Critically Needed; Drive Scheduled at Homewood

With many area blood drives having been shut down over the winter due to bad weather — including one of two days of the Homewood drive in February — the American Red Cross has been working to maintain a three-day supply of blood in local hospitals.

Now that spring is here, members of the Johns Hopkins community are being asked to donate blood at this week's Homewood campus drive, scheduled for 8 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, April 26 and 27, in the Glass Pavilion, Levering Hall. Each unit donated can be used to treat up to three critically ill or injured people.

Organizers say that donors will not only help make up the difference by donating but will feel good and receive a free limited edition T-shirt, too.

To register, stop by this page or contact John Black in the Office of Faculty, Staff and Retiree Programs at jblack1@jhu.edu or 410-516-0138. Both new and returning donors are urged to visit www.my-redcross.org to check on eligibility criteria, read up on preparing to donate and see the T-shirt that participants receive.
