New Awards, Dates Announced for Staff Recognition Events

By John Black
Faculty, Staff and Retiree Programs

If a traditional key chain or paperweight isn't quite what you'd like to receive to mark your milestone service anniversary, the Office of Faculty, Staff and Retiree Programs has good news about this year's staff recognition program, which starts in June.

New this year: Those being recognized for five, 10, 15 and 20 years of service — and, in increments of five years, all the way up to 60 years — will now be able to choose from a variety of service awards. The available gifts, from MTM Recognition, a leading designer and manufacturer of custom crafted jewelry and recognition awards, range from gym bags and Swiss army knives to earrings and custom designed jewelry, all with the official Johns Hopkins seal, along with the standard clocks and watches. A preview of possible awards is available at awards.mtmrecognition.com/jhu.

Eligible staff will receive ordering instructions at home by early April; orders can be placed directly by phone, fax, mail or online. Those being recognized have until April 13 to order; if that deadline is not met, a lapel pin will be provided.

The awards will be presented at the series of events organized by FSRP, on behalf of Johns Hopkins, to honor staff for their hard work and dedication.

Staff members who have served the university for five, 10 or 15 years and whose service anniversary falls between July 11, 2006, and July 10, 2007, inclusive, will be presented with their self-chosen awards at one of the following receptions: Bloomberg School of Public Health, on Wednesday, June 6, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in Feinstone Hall; School of Nursing, on Tuesday, June 12, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the Carpenter Room; and Homewood, which includes University Administration, JHPIEGO and Peabody, on Thursday, June 14, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the Glass Pavilion. Honorees also will enjoy a buffet of hors d'oeuvres and desserts.

Staff at the School of Medicine, JHU Press and SAIS will be notified once those events are scheduled.

The annual recognition and retiree dinner, which honors staff who are retiring or celebrating anniversaries of 20 years or more, in increments of five years, and whose anniversary falls between the dates above, is scheduled for Tuesday, June 5, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Ralph S. O'Connor Recreation Center on the Homewood campus. Staff with more than 40 years of service also will be invited to the dinner. Retiring staff with 25 or more years of service can receive either a captain's chair or engraved plaque. Eligible retirees must notify FSRP by April 15 of their choice.

Staff members who believe they are eligible for a service award and attendance at a recognition event can confirm their inclusion on the list by visiting the FSRP Web site at www.jhu.edu/fsrp and clicking on the link for "staff recognition." Those not listed who believe they are eligible, and those with any other questions, are asked to call FSRP at 410-516-6060.
