Students, neighborhood residents meet up at JHU community
block party
Staff The Gazette
The 3200 block of St. Paul Street took on a carnival
atmosphere on Sept. 13, when 800
students and local residents put aside their homework and
weekend chores — and their inhibitions — for
some good old-fashioned fun. Sumo wrestling, moon bouncing,
checkers, chess, hot dogs and cotton
candy (all free) were the order of the day, along with
booths offering information about university
and community activities. The event was sponsored by Johns
Hopkins and masterminded by Rebecca
LaFleur, general manager of Barnes & Noble Johns Hopkins
and president of the Charles Village
Business Association.
