The board of trustees has initiated its search for a
successor to President William R.
Brody,
who announced March 17 that he would retire Dec. 31 from
the post he has held for more than 12
years.
To begin the process, Pamela P. Flaherty, chair of the
board, is soliciting input from the
university community.
"Recognizing how much collective wisdom resides in
this university, we want to hear your views
on the university's challenges and the qualities we should
be looking for in our next president," she
said in e-mail sent today to faculty, staff, students and
alumni. "We also welcome all suggestions of
exceptional candidates for the presidency."
A mailbox for receiving suggestions has been set up at
pressearch@jhu.edu. Comments will be
shared only with members and staff of the search committee,
which will be announced soon, Flaherty
said. Its membership will include faculty and students as
well as trustees.
"Of all the fiduciary responsibilities of a board of
trustees, hiring a president is the most
important and the most challenging," Flaherty said. "We
take it very seriously."
