The annual Hopkins Picnic is scheduled for Thursday, June 18, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at Garland Field on the Homewood campus. The picnic will go on as scheduled, rain or shine. Bring a blanket or chair for comfort.


The gyrospinner is one of the major attractions of the Hopkins Picnic, scheduled for Thursday, June 18, rain or shine. Hopkins faculty, students, alumni and their families are invited to take part in the fun.

Join the entire Hopkins community--faculty, staff, students, alumni, retirees and families--for food and activities including supervised fun and games for children, volleyball, a gyrospinner, DJ and dance floor, and burgers and hot dogs prepared by--Hopkins "celebrity" grillers.

Tickets, which include food and beverages, are $8 for adults, $4 for children 3 to 12 years old (in advance); or $10 for adults, $5 for children 3 to 12 years old (at the gate). Children 2 years and under attend free. To obtain tickets, send a ticket request form and check to one of these representatives by Friday, June 12:

A seminar on the principles and practice of Falun Gong is scheduled for nine days, from Saturday, May 23, through Sunday, May 31. The free sessions will take place in the Garrett Room of the Milton S. Eisenhower Library from 7 to 9 p.m. Videotaped lectures will be shown each day.

Interested individuals can preview the new master of science in marketing cohort program, offered by the School of Continuing Studies, at an open house scheduled for Friday, June 5, from noon to 1:30 p.m.

The open house will take place at Hopkins Washington, D.C. Center, 1625 Massachusetts Ave. N.W. The program, offered only at the Washington, D.C. Center, provides a thorough foundation in strategic marketing and allows students to complete the graduate degree in three years in a cohort format, studying and progressing with the same small group of motivated professionals.

The Office of WORKlife Programs can assist parents in finding family- or center-based child care, summer camps, afterschool programs, private and parochial schools, pre-schools and kindergarten programs, nanny and au pair agencies, and directories for tutoring and child-sitting by Hopkins students. An MCAT preparatory course will be offered on the Homewood campus, beginning June 1 and continuing every Monday and Wednesday for 10 weeks, from 6 to 9 p.m. The course, consisting of approximately 60 hours of instruction and review, will be held in 111 Mergenthaler. The fee, which includes the manual and practice exams will be $480. Registration forms are available in 235 and 238A Mergenthaler.


Johns Hopkins faculty and staff can get in shape by walking around the Homewood campus, Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 12:30 to 1 p.m. The sessions continue through June 9. To register or for more information, call Occupational Health Services at 410-516-0450.
