Campus Police Take Active Role in Local Arrests Within the past two weeks, campus police have assisted the Northern District in making two arrests of suspects wanted in connection with two separate Charles Village robberies. On Dec. 27, Officers Bill Dowdy and Gerald Dengler responded to a call from a faculty member who had been robbed by two men on Christmas Day at the NationsBank in the 3100 block of St. Paul Street. After spotting one of the men from inside the Hopkins Store she phoned Homewood Security. Immediately, dispatcher Angel Johnson alerted the city police. While Off. Dengler stayed with the victim, Off. Dowdy followed the suspect, and within minutes he was arrested at Greenmount Ave. and 31st Street. On Jan. 9, two Hopkins students were robbed just before 2 a.m. by two males in the 3000 block of St. Paul Street. After running from their assailants, the students called city police. Campus Security also responded to the call. Riding with Lt. Wayne Cox, the students were able to observe and identify their assailants about an hour later. Lt. Cox continued to observe the suspects until the police arrived and made the arrest. "It's fortunate that the suspects in both cases were spotted by their victims, who remained clear-thinking and courageous," said Ronald Mullen, chief of Campus Security. "The subsequent arrests reflect the competence and diligence of our security personnel and the outstanding cooperation our office enjoys with the Northern District police," he added.
