A "New Year Health Day" for faculty and staff will be held
Thursday, Jan.
19, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in room 113 of the Preclinical
Teaching
Building in East Baltimore. "Health Day," sponsored by the
Occupational
Health Service at Homewood, will offer free cholesterol and blood
pressure
screening, body composition analysis and other health-related
information.
 
 Evergreen House seeks volunteers as week- day and weekend
tour guides, hosts for special events, research assistants and
museum shop
staff. Training sessions will be held on six consecutive Tuesday
mornings
or Thursday evenings, beginning Jan. 17 and Jan . 19. For

 A preconception class, covering
many aspects of prepregnancy care, will be held on Tuesday, Jan.
24, from
6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Johns Hopkins Women's Health Center at
the
Galleria Towers in Lutherville. Cost of the class, which is
sponsored by
the John s Hopkins Nurse-Midwif-ery Service, is $10 for
individuals, $15
for couples. A copy of the Midwife's Pregnancy and Childbirth
Book is
included in the fee.

 Marylanders Against Handgun Abuse will hold a reception
to announce its renewed commitment to reducing gun violence in
Maryland,
on Monday, Jan. 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Turner Auditorium
Concourse at
JHMI, 720 Rutland Ave. MAHA will also announce that
 Gov. Parris Glen-dening will be its new honorary chair and Lt.
Gov.
Kathleen Kennedy Townsend will be the new honorary vice chair.
Both have
been invited to the reception. Elected officials and medical,
religious
and community leaders from across the sta te will attend.

 A lecture by Civil War historian
Frank Towers, titled "Maryland's Secessionist Moment: April 19,
1861,"
will be held on Sunday, Jan. 22, at 1 p.m., in Evergreen's
Carriage House,
4545 North Charles St. The lecture will be followed by tours of
the
mansion and its Civil War exhibit. Admission to the lecture and
tour will
