"The Gazette" Gets Ready To Unveil A Redesign

Johns Hopkins Gazette Online Edition

Beginning with its Aug. 31 issue--the first of the fall semester--The Gazette will have a new look.

Along with a redesigned flag--the newspaper's name as it appears on page one--other design elements have been created and typefaces chosen to a convey a distinctive look that is both traditional and modern.

Although many elements of the redesign will seem familiar, others have been reworked to make the paper livelier, more visually appealing and easier to read.

For many readers, the most striking makeover will be the calendar, which will now appear on the back page and will incorporate spot color. To make the calendar more useful for readers--and to showcase the wide array of events taking place at the university--it has been reorganized by category. Events will be listed chronologically under various headlines, which include such topics as classes, exhibitions, film, fitness, lectures, music, readings, religion, seminars, sports, symposia and theater. As always, all members of the Hopkins community are encouraged to submit listings of events sponsored by the university or taking place on its campuses. Photographs are also welcome.

In the new format, classifieds will appear on the next-to-last page.

Deadline for the submission of calendar listings, classifieds and notices to appear in the Aug. 31 issue is noon on Monday, Aug. 24.
