The first clue is the door pulls: One hand on those big, coffee bean-filled tubes and you know that the first tenant in Hopkins Square at Homewood Apartments is no ordinary coffee spot. XandO Coffee & Bar--which will officially open those doors onto N. Charles Street on Wednesday, Dec. 16--is a casual cafe-cum-gathering spot; and, if it's at all like its forerunners at Yale and the University of Pennsylvania, it will be pulling in campus crowds from 7 in the morning to 2 at night. Here, XandO's Sandor Scher and Tony Khoury get ready for Wednesday's kickoff event, which will be a 2 to 8 p.m. open house featuring livemusic and a photography show. All sales that day will benefit the programs of Maryland Art Place.
