David K. Ryugo Ph.D.

I was born in Sacramento and grew up in Davis, CA. I enjoyed school, sports, and the outdoors (hiking and camping). I was an Eagle Scout. I attended Yale University, and upon graduation, spent 2 years performing alternate civilian service as a conscientious objector. I became interested in brain function during college, and have pursued this interest through graduate school at the University of California, Irvine, and in my academic and research career at the University of Vermont, Harvard Medical School, and Johns Hopkins University.

The brain is a beautiful and mysterious subject for study. Every day involves a problem to be solved or something to discover. I am extremely lucky to work at what I love. When I'm not in the lab doing science or worrying about funding, manuscripts, and administration, I climb rocks and am involved in youth soccer.
