Cardiac Arrest & Therapeutic Hypothermia

Cardiac Arrest (CA) is a leading cause of death in United States and the world. It causes 460,000 sudden cardiac deaths in the United States annually and 17 million worldwide. Despite the advances in resuscitation techniques, the survival rate is still very low: only 2% to 9% for patients following out-of-hospital arrest.

We focus on the development of novel translational tools for uncovering mechanisms of brain injury after cardiac arrest, monitoring and tracking the neurological injuries, and guiding treatments like therapeutic hypothermia...More

Peripheral Nerve Injury

We aim to develop novel methodology to promote nerve regeneration after peripheral nerve injury and developing novel nerve scaffold for the next generation of nerve signal controlled prosthetic limbs.

Clinical Assessment of Common Tests for Traumatic injury or pathologic change of shoulder joint

To assess the clinical usefulness of various physical examination tests as tools for the diagnosis, tests were performed during the physical examination to make a diagnosis of traumatic injury or pathologic change of shoulder joint and prospectively entered into a database at the Division of Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Johns Hopkins University, and then was evaluated with statistical methods to determine the clinical value (overall accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, likelihood ratios, and the post-test probabilities)…More
