Young investigators honored
School of Medicine recognizes the talents of students and fellows


Mentor Peter Espenshade and doctoral candidate Bridget Todd Hughes, who discovered how yeast cells sense oxygen concentration. Hughes' research has earned her the Alicia Showalter Reynolds Award.

The 31st annual Young Investigators' Day celebration at Johns Hopkins will highlight discoveries ranging from how cells sense oxygen to how nerve cells grow and develop. Twelve students and six fellows will receive awards, and all young investigators at the School of Medicine will be celebrated.

JHU to invest $5 million in diversity faculty hires
The Johns Hopkins University will provide at least $5 million over the next five years in matching funds for departments seeking to improve diversity, including hiring and retaining outstanding women and underrepresented minority scholars for faculty positions.
