Hundreds of Hopkins runners
Close to 900 faculty, staff and students from all the Hopkins campuses turned out on Oct. 3 to participate in the 1999 Maryland Race for the Cure. Feeling particularly triumphant were the 150 women and men representing the School of Nursing, which had successfully challenged the schools of Medicine and Public Health to bring out the most participants.
   The race, part of an annual nationwide effort that benefits the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, aims to raise awareness about breast cancer and also supports local breast cancer education. $10 million to JHM from M.I. Knott
A commitment of $10 million from Marion I. Knott, matriarch of one of Baltimore's most philanthropic families, will endow directorships in cancer and medical genetics at the School of Medicine.
    The head of the Department of Oncology will be known as the Marion I. Knott Director and Professor of Oncology, and the recently established McKusick-Nathans Medical Genetics Institute will be led by the Henry J. Knott Director and Professor of Medical Genetics. Full story...
