Graduate student Aditya Polsani must wonder what he
has to do for an en-core, as the organization he recently
co-founded appears to be the hottest act in town. Polsani
is president of the Hopkins Biotech Network, a student-run
organization that seeks to promote education, career
development and networking in the field of biotechnology.

Info security chief named for
Hopkins
An enormous amount of sensitive information is
generated each day within The Johns Hopkins University and
The Johns Hopkins Health System, from student and employee
data to medical records, in paper documents and electronics
files. To make sure this information is collected and
stored in a safe and secure manner, Johns Hopkins has
appointed Darren Lacey to serve as chief security
officer/information security policy coordinator for the
university and the health system.

Finding a way to fight mom/baby HIV
transmission
In the Sept. 13 issue of The Lancet, Johns
Hopkins and Ugandan researchers report final results of a
study showing that a safe, simple and inexpensive treatment
reduces transmission of HIV from mothers to babies during
childbirth and the first few weeks of life, offering a good
chance to curb the spread of HIV.
