PURA grants in hand, 45 undergrads move into the world of
research

To recognize the recipients of the 2004 Provost's
Undergraduate Research Awards, an event will be held from 3
to 6 p.m. on Thursday in Homewood's Glass Pavilion. A
poster session in which students will have an
opportunity to display the results of their research begins
at 3 p.m.

Milestone for women profs at SOM
In late 2003, oncologist Judith Karp was appointed to
the position of full professor at the School of Medicine
to honor her many accomplishments in
the field. A notable achievement in its own right, the
promotion was also a major milestone as she became the
100th female faculty member in the school's history to
achieve the illustrious rank.

Cassini captures first photographs of Saturn's radiation
belts
Using an innovative camera on NASA's Cassini
spacecraft, scientists have captured images of a radiation
belt inside the rings of Saturn and have the clearest
picture yet of the planet's giant magnetosphere, according
to a mid-year report of the spacecraft published Feb. 25 in
the journal Science.
