20 years of burgers and balloons


Bill the Balloon Dude (aka Bill Spink)
charms some small guests.

Could it be hundreds of thousands? Millions? Who could even fathom a guess about how many burgers and hot dogs had been relished, beanbags and rings tossed or balloons twisted into animal shapes since Johns Hopkins started throwing itself a grand family picnic 20 years ago?
The tradition continued in fine style on July 14, when 2,000 employees, family members and friends flocked to the Johns Hopkins at Eastern campus for an afternoon filled with delicious summer fare, carnival-inspired games and, yes — dare we say it? — countless smiles.

Compensation program rolls out this month
The university this month began the rollout of a new market-based compensation program that touts itself as more flexible and rewarding of work performance and growth.
Due to the immense scope of the change, the program, which officially became effective on July 1 and affects the eight academic divisions, will be rolled out over the next several months with full implementation expected by the end of the calendar year.

Using unusually rigorous scientific conditions and measures, Johns Hopkins researchers have shown that the active agent in "sacred mushrooms" can induce mystical/spiritual experiences descriptively identical to spontaneous ones people have reported for centuries.
