Federal Office Allows Hopkins Research to Resume

Johns Hopkins Gazette Online Edition

Officials from Johns Hopkins and the Office for Human Research Protections worked together intensively over the weekend of July 21 and 22 to address OHRP's concerns and enable Hopkins' valuable research studies to resume as soon as possible.

OHRP on July 22 approved a corrective action plan formulated by Johns Hopkins, a plan consistent with the approach Hopkins suggested as a result of its own internal investigation into the tragic death in June of a healthy subject enrolled in an NIH-funded research study. OHRP also imposed certain conditions on the resumption of research.

"We are going to do whatever it takes to develop a model system that puts the safety of our patients and research volunteers, as always, above all else," said Edward D. Miller, dean and CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine. "We are working very closely and collegially with our research faculty and with federal agencies to achieve this goal."
