Kappa Kappa Gamma was founded on October 13, 1870 at Monmouth College in Illinois.
The six founders of Kappa were exceptional young women who were looking for a community
that provided more advancement, support, and companionship than the literary
societies of the time.
Kappa is actually considered a women's fraternity because we were founded
before the word "sorority" had been coined. At the time of our founding,
there was only one other greek letter organization for women
in the world.
