After almost one year of hard work, we finally submitted a new review on black hole spectroscopy to the arXiv.
This community effort (68 coauthors, 316 pages, 80 figures in the current version) started at the Ringdown Inside & Out conference in Copenhagen in August 2024. It is a massive update of the 2009 review Quasinormal modes of black holes and black branes that I coauthored with Vitor Cardoso and Andrei Starinets.
We cover our improved understanding of the quasinormal mode frequency spectrum in general relativity (Chapter 2) and in modified gravity theories (Chapter 3); analytical and numerical calculations of quasinormal mode amplitudes (Chapter 4); the current status of ringdown waveform modeling (Chapter 5) and data analysis (Chapter 6); and how spectroscopy tests will improve with future, more sensitive detectors (Chapter 7).
