What it's really about, says Jill Sorensen, is getting the faculty's discoveries and inventions quickly into widespread use — by physicians, businesses, even consumers — and thereby improving health, standards of living and society in general.

University mourns death of student
The Johns Hopkins community will mourn the loss of one of its bright young stars at a memorial observance scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 2, at Homewood's Ralph S. O'Connor Recreation Center. Linda Trinh, a 21-year-old senior biomedical engineering major, was found dead on Sunday, Jan. 23, in her residence in the Charles Apartments, a privately owned building across Charles Street from the Homewood campus.

Heart Institute receives $10 million gift from Modells
Arthur B. Modell, longtime National Football League team owner and medical philanthropist named last year to head the new Johns Hopkins Heart Institute's board of governors, announced Jan. 25 that he and his wife, Pat, are making a gift that will provide $10 million to the institute.
