Wren Haaland can double dutch like nobody's business,
and she has the medals to prove it. The Johns Hopkins
sophomore took up competitive jump roping nine years ago,
and her career skipped to a high point this summer when she
struck gold with Team USA at the International Rope
Skipping Federation World Championships held in Toronto,
Canada.

Koch Cancer Research Building to be
dedicated
At a late afternoon ceremony today on the East
Baltimore medical campus, Johns Hopkins' second cancer
research building will be named to honor philanthropist and
university trustee David Koch. Koch, the executive vice
president of the nation's largest privately held company,
recently donated $20 million in support of the
building.

APL opens center in public health
informatics
The Applied Physics
Laboratory has received a $4 million three-year grant
from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to
establish a Center for Excellence in Public Health
Informatics. APL's center will be one of five funded by CDC
to conduct research leading to major scientific advances in
public health informatics.
