Mao Research Group

The Mao Research Group focuses on developing novel polymeric materials and strategies for therapeutic delivery and regenerative medicine. The two major research program are (1) Engineering self-assembled nanoparticles for delivery of nucleic acid therapeutics, and (2) Developing biomimetic nanofibers for stem cell culture and tissue regeneration. We are uniquely located at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering in Maryland Hall on Whiting School of Engineering Campus, and the Translational Tissue Engineering Center at the Smith Building on School of Medicine Campus.

New polymer carrier design that allows for controlled self-assembly of DNA/RNA nanoparticles

We have developed a series of biocompatible and biodegradable polymers that self-assemble with DNA or RNA to form micellar nanoparticles.
