I am happy and honored to be the recipient of this year’s Richard A. Isaacson Award in Gravitational-Wave Science. The award motivation reads:

For contributions to gravitational-wave science through groundbreaking studies of black hole quasinormal modes, higher multipole radiation, astrophysical detection rates, spin evolution, and tests of general relativity, and for leadership in preparing impactful white papers and review articles.

The award recognizes outstanding contributions in gravitational-wave physics, gravitational-wave astrophysics, and the technologies that enable this science. It has been made possible through the generous support of Kip S. Thorne and Rainer Weiss and it honors the contributions of Richard Isaacson, retired Program Director of Gravitational Physics at the National Science Foundation, to the development of LIGO and to the entire field of gravitational-wave physics.

I am in exceptionally good company. All of the previous recipients made key contributions to gravitational-wave instrumentation, theory, community building and data analysis. Thanks to all the people (senior and junior) who worked with me and supported me through the years.

Kaze Wong and I gave a talk last week for the APS Division of Gravitational Physics and we had a special guest - Isaacson himself!
